I must say that I was expecting a lot more out of this movie. It was very slow and nothing was ever satisfactorily resolved. I felt that there was a LOT of story left to tell and that I was cheated.
This is a very painful and difficult movie to watch -sad story of a woman who cannot get her life together (Theron) who leaves her 11 yr old daughter with her emotionally strugging brother played Ohhh so VERY brillantly yet heart-breakingly by Nick Stahl. Both he and his sister have their problems but they stem back to the abuse they suffered under their father's cruel ways played by Dennis Hopper. Performances by all in this movie are more than outstanding - the story itself however a little slow and painfully hard to watch which is why I can't give this 4 stars...but Nick Stahl's performance in particular was brilliant.
A fairly painful experience -- a little too close to life but without any deep message. Maybe face your own fears...?
A girl abandoned by her mother, a father unable to offer anything but hatred to his own children -- these are narrative elements of potentially great force, but they play out here without much shape, definition or power. Stylistically strange, sluggish and ultimately an unsatisfying domestic drama that is all too aptly named, just save yourself from "sleepwalking" through this film and go and take a nap instead.
this film shouldnt be missed. It does get corny and syrupy in the second half but its still worth watching. Charlize theron is wonderful in her small role as a dysfunctional mother who abandons her daughter, anasophia and nick stahl are also good as niece and uncle who must struggle to sruvive after the uncle loses his job and is stuck with the fact that his sister might enver come back and must find a way to take care of his niece whi is in need of a mother and guidance. In the end niece and uncle take a road trip to the old farm ownded by the father of nick stahl and charlize theron. There Nick stahl must confront his demons with his father and the past that made him sleepwalk through his life for many years.
its it worth watching.
